The Multimedia climate change, better news article online of the world in 2008.

The Society for News Desing (SND) choose Multimedia climate change coverage from July 2008 (a joint endeavour with the Basque department for Environment and Planning) as the best on-line reporting on the topic of global warming published throughout the world last summer.

The project achieved a total of 4.5 points out of 5 (9 out of 10) to become winner in the category of “Non-Breaking News Reports” for its well-planned delivery of news items on current events in July 2008.

The jury commented that “This was a very in-depth analysis of climate change. Multiple mediums were successfully used to portray this story, including several innovative techniques such as shockwave virtual tours. Presenting this package in four languages was probably the most impressive feature. The information contained in the reports was accurate and the graphics were well designed. The visual presentation of the reports was very appealing. We also liked the guides to highlight navigation.”

The award for this category is shared with another work produced by the Washington Post that covered the housing situation in the US. The report produced by eitb.com was a co-production with the Basque regional department for Environment and Planning and also benefited from the participation of 90 grados (graphics) Axiora (virtual pathways) and Vilaumedia (integration) among others.

Acknowledgement as “winner” in this category also means that Multimedia on Climate Change will be a candidate at this years SND awards to be judged in August at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill the world´s leading centre in the field of computer graphics.

The results of the SND´s decision will be announced at the SND annual meeting in September which, as an exception to other years, will be held in Buenos Aires on 24th and 25th September.
